Periodontal outcomes of anterior fixed partial dentures on teeth treated with the biologically oriented preparation technique: A 6-year prospective c…
2021
Abstract Statement of problem One of the most frequent complications in participants with fixed partial dentures (FPDs) is the apical migration of the gingival margin, which may be associated with factors such as fit, gingival margin location, or tooth preparation type. The prevalence of the complication in participants restored with FPDs prepared by using the biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT) is unclear. Purpose The purpose of this prospective clinical trial was to evaluate the clinical and biologic outcomes of FPDs on teeth prepared by using the BOPT, over a 6-year follow-up period. Material and methods Tooth-supported zirconia FPDs in the anterior region prepared by usin…
Introduction of a system for choosing and placing the anterior teeth of complete dentures.

Tooth-implant connection in removable denture.
2016
When the patient cannot be rehabilitated with a fixed denture, or when he does not succeed in adapting to a traditional removable denture, a possible alternative solution consists in the use of a limited number of implants, placed in strategic positions in the arches of the patient, and subsequently connected to their residual teeth. The aim of this review is to evaluate the progress made on connections between teeth and implants in removable denture, to analyze their advantages and disadvantages and to compare the survival rate, both of the teeth and of the implants used as abutments, present in the various studies taken into examination, with the aim of being able to evaluate the effectiv…
Effect of Thermomechanical and Static Loading on the Load to Fracture of Metal‐Ceramic, Monolithic and Veneered Zirconia Posterior Fixed Partial Dent…
2018
PURPOSE To evaluate the influence of static (not preloaded) and thermomechanical loading on the load to fracture of metal-ceramic, monolithic and veneered zirconia computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) posterior fixed partial dentures (FPDs). MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred standardized specimens with 2 abutments screwed onto a platform were prepared from stainless steel to receive a posterior 3-unit FPD with an intermediate pontic. Specimens were randomly divided into 5 groups (n = 20): Metal-ceramic (control group), Lava Zirconia system, Vita In-Ceram YZ, IPS e.max ZirCAD, and Lava Plus. Half of the specimens of each group (n = 10) underwent no preloading, and the…
Premolars restored with posts of different materials: fatigue analysis
2011
Previous works studied the effect of the material and the dimensions of the post on the biomechanical performance (fracture strength and stress distribution) of restored teeth, under static loads. The aim of this work was to study the effect of the post material (glass fibre and stainless steel) on restored teeth, which have the final crown, under dynamic conditions. The use of a biomechanical model, including a fatigue analysis from FEA, is presented as a powerful method to study the effect of the material of the intraradicular post. The inclusion of the fatigue analysis allows for a more realistic study that takes into account the dynamic nature of masticatory forces. At the same time, th…
Prosthetic rehabilitation of a young patient affected by Ectodermal Dysplasia with the new Eclipse Resin System
2012
Ectodermal dysplasia is a genetic disease caused by incorrect development of the epidermis and cutaneous adnexa (for example hair, nails and sweat glands). It is often associated with skeletal and dental development anomalies. The main clinical manifestations of these syndromes are hypotrichosis, hypohydrosis and hypodontia or anodontia. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is still the most frequently used material in denture bases, but it can lead to irritation, inflammation and allergic reactions in the oral mucosa, due to the release of residual monomers. This clinical report describes a case of Hypohydrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia, rehabilitated with removable dentures made with a new monomer-f…
Condizioni di edentulismo e necessità di trattamento protesico in un campione della popolazione adulta della città di Palermo
2010
The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of edentulousness and the prosthetic treatment need in a sample of the over 18-year-old inhabitants of Palermo (Italy). A stratified sample of 385 subjects (183 female and 202 male) was taken to represent the population of the city. Each subject included in the study was examined to record the level of edentulousness (complete edentulousness, partial edentulousness, intact dentition) and the level of denture wearing. Requirement for repair of dentures was recorded according to the marginal fitting for fixed dentures, and to the extension, stability and retention for removable dentures. Complete edentulousness of one or both arches was present …
Immediate Loading with Fixed Full-Arch Prosthesis in the Edentulous Patient: Treatment Protocol
2019
Immediate loading is basically a prosthetic concept. However, the surgical implantological planning is very important to ensure a primary stability in the total edentulous patient. This characteristic is crucial to allow immediate loading in this type of patients. For the first time, the incisional design has allowed the clinician to overview about the surgical side. Later, maybe, the bone will need an osteoplasty to regularize possible bone defects. To ensure primary stability, it can use methods to enhance primary stability as undersized drilling technique and use of osteotomes and bi-cortical anchorage implants. There are two main protocols to obtain temporary immediate loading full-arch…
Analysis of risk factors for maxillary denture-related oral mucosal lesions: A cross-sectional study
2019
Background To evaluate the frequency of maxillary dentures-related lesions and the possible associated risk factors. Material and Methods Ninety-seven participants were selected, and a complete anamnesis, physical examination and tests of occlusion vertical dimension (OVD), retention and stability of the denture, biofilm quantification, cytopathology, sialometry, pH analysis and buffer capacity of the saliva were performed. Statistical analyses were performed with the Pearson’s chi-square, Mann-Whitney tests, and Pearson’s coefficient (p<0.05). Results In 78% of the participants at least one denture-related lesion was found. Denture-associated stomatitis (63%), inflammatory fibrous hyperpla…
Comparative studies on check-bite and central-bearing-point method for the remounting of complete dentures
1995
Thirty-six complete dentures were remounted both with check-bite as well as central-bearing-point (CBP) registration. The mandibular or denture position was registered in the condylar area three times with each method. Two independent operators carried out the registrations. One half of patients had their occlusion equilibrated according to the check-bite registration, the other half in the central-bearing-point position. After individual determination of the hinge axis the upper dentures were mounted by a face-bow transfer into a Dentatus articulator. A total of six registrations was performed and repeatedly compared in the condylar area in three dimensions using a computer supported measu…
